$6.00 outfit

Alright ladies.  This one is not meant to show you how amazing my sewing skills are.  Today I want to show just how little you can spend on a great outfit.

I bought the top for a quarter last Sunday, I bought the skirt for fifty cents today, and I bought the shoes on clearance at Target last week for $4.74.  All together I spent less than $6.00 on the entire outfit.  And I must say, I'm feeling very Betty Draper in this ensemble.

Forgive the photography.  I had to take this one myself.  But I think you get the picture.  Fun, right???  You can do it too!  Until recently I honestly thought garage sales for clothing would be a waste time.  Boy was I wrong.

Another biggie.

This dress was HUGE.

Wow.

I stood on a chair and it was still about four inches past my feet.  It was also homemade and really well crafted, by the way.  It was just much more fabric than I could every need in one dress.  It's tough to see in the picture, but the fabric is black with tiny blue, white, and pink flowers.  This was one of my garage sale finds from last week.  Remember?  Nine things for $2.00???  Pretty awesome.

So, getting started I definitely needed to take off some of the length.  And by "some of the length" I really mean half of the dress.

I'm saving the fabric for another project.  There's enough for a skirt, or a top, or even a couple of baby dresses (Not for me.  This is not an announcement).

After taking off the length, I took in a few inches on each side.  Then I took in the sleeves.  I tried keeping the ruffle but it was just a bit too country for my taste so I made short sleeves instead.  After hemming the bottom I threw on a black belt and I was ready to go.

I don't love this dress but I still think it turned out pretty well.  And for less than a quarter and about an hour of fun I certainly can't complain.

Here we go again.

I had two lovely posts, then I freaked out because I didn't want random people reading my blog, so I deleted my posts, then I found out I can make my blog private.  So here I am, starting over.

I will re-post my previous fashion recreations later.  Today I want to focus on something new.

Behold; the giant, pink blouse.

Huge

I got this thing for a quarter at a garage sale last Sunday.  I'm not kidding.  I came out of there with nine items for $2.00.  I can't wait to show you the rest!  I chose this blouse because I loved the embroidery.

I tried a few things with this one.  I removed the sleeves and tried making it a tunic, but there was too much fabric bunching up.  Then I took in a few inches on each side, but it was still too long and awkward.  Finally I took a few inches off the bottom and this is what I ended up with.

Try to ignore my face.

I think it turned out pretty well :)
